What it is & how it works

NAD+ is a coenzyme every cell uses in energy metabolism. It is sold by infusion in wellness settings, and it is a treatment where what is established and what is claimed are far apart, so this page is written to separate the two.

What NAD+ is

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is a coenzyme present in every living cell. Its role in metabolism is not controversial and has been described in biochemistry for decades: it carries electrons in the reactions that turn food into usable cellular energy, and it participates in processes involved in DNA repair and cell signalling. Levels of it are understood to decline with age. That much is textbook biochemistry. The step that is not textbook is the one from there to infusing it into a vein and expecting a specific outcome in how a person feels or ages. That step is where the evidence thins out sharply, and it would be dishonest to present the first part as though it settled the second.

What we will not tell you

You will find clinics presenting NAD+ infusion as an answer for fatigue, mental clarity, athletic recovery, addiction and ageing itself. We are not going to repeat those claims, because there is no FDA-approved NAD+ product for infusion and no approved indication for any of them. Saying otherwise would be advertising an unapproved use, and you would have no way of knowing we had done it. What can be said accurately is narrower: it is a real coenzyme with a real metabolic role, it is available through compounding, and the question of whether infusing it produces a meaningful clinical benefit has not been settled by the kind of evidence that would settle it. If that sounds less exciting than what you have read elsewhere, that is the point.

What compounded means, and why it matters here

An approved medicine has been through FDA review of its safety, its effectiveness and its manufacturing. A compounded preparation has not. It is made by a pharmacy for a specific prescription. Compounding is legal and routine, but the safety net is different, and with NAD+ that difference has shown up concretely: the FDA has issued a Class I recall for a NAD+ injection over endotoxin levels, and has reminded pharmacies that food-grade NAD+ is not suitable for injection. Class I is the FDA's most serious recall category. This is not a reason to panic about a treatment you may have already had. It is a reason to ask which pharmacy prepared what you are being given, and to expect a straight answer.

How this differs from the rest of what we do

Every other treatment on this site acts locally: filler placed in one area, ultrasound aimed at one depth, a needle working on one patch of skin. An infusion is systemic. It goes everywhere the blood goes. That changes the nature of the conversation. A filler that disappoints is a local, correctable problem. Anything given intravenously carries the categories of risk that come with intravenous access itself, independent of what is in the bag. That is why this one, unlike a lip filler, is not something to book on impulse from a phone.

Regulatory status

There is no FDA-approved NAD+ product for intravenous use. Preparations given by infusion are compounded, which means they are not reviewed by the FDA for safety or effectiveness the way an approved medicine is, and NAD+ is not on the FDA's list of substances authorised for that kind of compounding. The FDA has also issued a Class I recall for a NAD+ injection over contamination. None of that means it cannot be discussed with you. It means it is a decision to make with a clinician who knows your history, not one to make from a web page.

Is this right for you?

This is a treatment to discuss with a clinician who knows your medical history, including any medication you take. If the assessment concludes it is not appropriate for you, you will be told that plainly.
